Where Japanese Craftsmanship Meets the Moment of Prayer
Born in the historic weaving district of Kyoto's Nishijin, the Kyoto Nishijin Sajadah Mini is handcrafted by master artisans using Kinran (金襴) technique: a centuries-old method of weaving gold and silver thread and foil into intricate, luminous patterns.
Choose Your Design
SHIKI (四季) — The Four Seasons of Japan
Cherry blossoms in spring, vivid summer blooms, fiery autumn leaves, the quiet elegance of winter. The SHIKI design captures an entire year of Japan's floral splendor in a single mat.
KARAKUSA (唐草) — Japan's Timeless Arabesque
The Karakusa pattern — flowing vines and tendrils in an endless arabesque — is one of Japan's most iconic textile motifs, with a history spanning over a thousand years.
MAIKA (舞花) — A World in Bloom
Various kinds of flowers from all over the world bloom joyfully across this mat. The symmetry of the Maika pattern creates an impression of harmony — a quiet, peaceful world rendered in gold thread and foil.
15 Hours. Thousands of Threads. One Prayer Mat.
A single mat takes up to 15 hours to weave and passes through 11 distinct production stages across 7 specialist craftsmen. The color layering alone requires an intuition that cannot be taught from a manual. This is why Kinran cannot be mass-produced. Every mat that leaves the workshop is, by nature, a rare object.
Crafted by Kaji Kinran
One of Kyoto Nishijin's foremost Kinran specialists — committed to nurturing the next generation of artisans while pushing the boundaries of traditional expression.
