    This"Kibidango"(きびだんご)is a famous Hokkaido confection beloved by the people of Hokkaido. You can even eat the transparent wrapper!

    This particular Hokkaido specialty"Kibidango" (きびだんご)is quite different from Okayama's famous"Kibi dango" (吉備団子)(which is a layered mochi sweet made from a combination of kibi flour and mochiko [glutinous rice flour]).

    The name of this Hokkaido specialty originates from the portable food, also called "kibidango" (きびだんご), used during the early days of Hokkaido's development. This treat symbolizes the spirit of mutual assistance during Hokkaido's colonization and was created with the hope of aiding in the recovery from the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923.

    Initially, this treat had a long shelf life and was quite filling, making it a valuable emergency food source during difficult times.
